Pakistan braces for prolonged heatwave

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning stating that heatwave conditions are expected to persist across much of the country throughout this week. The highest temperatures were recorded in Mohenjo Daro, Jacobabad, and Dadu at 49°C, while several other cities experienced temperatures reaching 48°C and 47°C.

The current synoptic situation indicates the dominance of continental air over most regions, with a high-pressure system prevailing in the upper atmosphere, likely to persist in the coming days. On Wednesday, heatwave conditions are anticipated to continue across most areas.

However, there’s a chance of partly cloudy weather with the possibility of rain, wind, or thunderstorms at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas during the evening and night.

Over the last 24 hours, very hot weather has been observed across many parts of the country.
