Punjab Announces Rs. 100,000 Reward Under Electric Bike Scheme

The Punjab government has rolled out a major incentive for eco-conscious commuters under the Chief Minister’s Green Credit Program, offering a reward of up to Rs. 100,000 to citizens who switch from petrol to electric motorcycles.

According to program head Rizwana Anjum, individuals who purchase a new electric motorcycle after December 2024 can apply for the reward by registering on the Chief Minister Punjab Green Credit Program’s official web portal.

Applicants must provide the purchase date, company and model, registration number, chassis number, photos of the vehicle, and a copy of the registration book. A program representative will then visit to verify the information.

Once approved, the beneficiary will receive Rs. 50,000 as an initial payment. The second Rs. 50,000 will be awarded after the electric bike is connected to the Green Credit mobile app and used to travel 6,000 kilometers within six months.

The initiative is part of Punjab’s push to reduce transport-related carbon emissions by 20% by 2030. The program aims to convert 2,000 petrol bikes and 250 other vehicles to electric this fiscal year, cutting emissions by 8,000 tons annually.
