WhatsApp has launched a range of new features aimed at enhancing user experience across chats, calls, and channels, with special improvements for iPhone users.
Group Chats Get Smarter
Users in group chats will now see a live “Online” indicator showing how many participants are currently active, making interactions more dynamic.
A new “Notify for” setting also allows custom alerts — users can choose to be notified about all messages or only @mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts.

Events and Quick Reactions
The platform has extended its event creation feature to one-on-one chats, letting users RSVP as “maybe,” add plus-ones, and set event end times. Important event details can also be pinned. WhatsApp now supports tappable emoji reactions for quicker responses to messages.
Improved Call Quality
Video calling has been enhanced with better routing technology to reduce call drops and freezing.
Bandwidth detection is now more efficient, allowing automatic upgrades to HD video quality when conditions are right. On iPhones, users can pinch to zoom during video calls and add participants directly from chat windows.
Channel Tools for Admins
Admins of WhatsApp Channels can now record and share 60-second video notes and benefit from voice message transcripts. QR codes can also be generated for easier channel promotion and subscriber growth.
iPhone-Specific Enhancements
iPhone users can now scan and send documents directly through a new built-in scanner in the attachment menu. They can also set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app via device settings.
