One-Way Traffic Violators Might Face Heavy Fines in Punjab

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has hinted at imposing a hefty Rs10,000 fine on individuals violating one-way traffic rules in the city, aiming to curb reckless driving and improve road discipline.

During the hearing of an anti-smog case on Friday, Justice Shahid Karim underscored the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. He directed the Punjab home and finance departments to enhance their efforts in improving the services of traffic wardens to ensure better road management.

The judge acknowledged the Lahore Traffic Police for implementing effective measures to streamline traffic flow. He noted that the city was heading in the right direction, with all institutions playing their part in maintaining order on the roads.

Furthermore, Justice Shahid Karim instructed authorities to devise a comprehensive traffic management plan, particularly for school hours, to prevent congestion and ensure smoother movement of vehicles during peak times.

Stricter Penalties for Traffic Violators

Meanwhile, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Ather Waheed has also announced a tougher stance against traffic law violators. On February 21, he directed officials to file First Information Reports (FIRs) against owners of large vehicles instead of issuing challans for traffic violations in Lahore.

In an unprecedented move, he warned that violators would be assigned community service as punishment. Those failing to comply with traffic laws would be ordered to clean Mall Road, and if they refused, they would have to clean Liberty Market instead.

Additionally, Dr Ather Waheed stated that salaries of government employees who fail to pay their e-challans would be withheld until they clear their dues.

These measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved road safety in Lahore.
