Vehicle Registration Now Simplified Across All Punjab Districts

The Punjab government has made significant changes to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, allowing vehicles to be registered in any district across the province.

This amendment eliminates the requirement for registration to match the vehicle owner’s permanent residential district, making the process more flexible and accessible.

Excise Director General Umar Sher Chattha stated that the reform aims to simplify procedures and enhance inter-district connectivity. The existing registration series will continue, supported by digital tools such as online payment systems and e-registration cards.

The Excise Department also achieved a record-breaking revenue collection of Rs30.453 billion in the first six months of FY 2024-25, reflecting a 23% increase compared to the previous year.

In addition, the Punjab government is cracking down on residents registering their vehicles in other provinces or the federal capital to avoid taxes. The Excise Department, with Cabinet approval, plans to impose penalties on individuals with Punjab CNICs who register their vehicles outside the province.

This move addresses growing concerns over tax evasion and related security risks.

The government intends to monitor NADRA district codes to curb off-province registrations. Vehicles registered outside Punjab will be fined and required to re-register within the province. A summary for legislative action is being prepared to enforce these measures.
