PMDC Approves Four-Option MCQ Format for Upcoming MDCAT

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has recently granted permission to IBA Sukkur to include four answer options for each multiple-choice question in the upcoming Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).

According to a letter from the PMDC registrar, the council has approved a standardized test paper format across the province, though it recommended that IBA Sukkur prepare the test with different paper codes to maintain consistency, similar to practices in other regions.

The PMDC letter clarified that the council has no issues with aligning the four-answer option format with the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) answer sheets, a method already in use in other provinces.

For further guidance, PMDC advised IBA Sukkur to refer to the MDCAT curriculum and the PMDC’s August 2024 notification.

Meanwhile, the MDCAT will be held again on November 24 in Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, following concerns over the initial test administered by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) in September.

Over 17,000 students will retake the exam, after Islamabad High Court’s ruling declared the September test invalid due to reported issues, including out-of-syllabus questions. Allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency led students and parents to protest, demanding fair testing standards.
