It Would Be ‘Foolish’ Not to Maintain Good Relations with Army: Imran Khan

Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister who is currently in prison and blames the military for his removal from office and ongoing imprisonment, described the idea of maintaining poor relations with the military as “foolish.”

Despite his critical stance on the military, Khan emphasized the importance of having strong and positive relations with the armed forces. With the anniversary of his imprisonment approaching, Imran Khan addressed his situation in written answers to Reuters.

Khan also clarified that he bears no ill will towards the United States, which he has previously criticized for its alleged role in his 2022 ouster.

Khan, in responses shared by his media and legal team, stated, “Given Pakistan’s geographical position and the military’s significant role in the private sector, it would be foolish not to foster such a relationship.”

He also expressed pride in Pakistan’s soldiers and armed forces.

Khan clarified that his criticisms following his removal were aimed at individuals rather than the military as a whole. He stated, “The miscalculations of the military leadership shouldn’t be held against the institution as a whole.”

In his responses, the 71-year-old former cricket star did not detail the specific topics he wished to discuss with the military.
