Sindh Announces Distribution of Free Electric Scooters

The Government of Sindh has announced that the distribution of free electric scooters under the Pink Scooters Program will begin this week. The initiative is designed to support women who depend on public transport for education, employment, or daily needs, by providing them with a safer and more reliable commuting option.

According to officials, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority is finalizing records of female applicants, including students and working women, with scooters to be allotted on the basis of merit and need.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the program marks a revolutionary step toward empowering women in the province. He emphasized that the scooters will not only save time and reduce expenses but also ensure safe and dignified mobility.

He added that a transparent and straightforward mechanism has been devised to encourage maximum participation. The Pink EV Scooty Scheme was first launched in April 2024 under the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

Applicants must be permanent residents of Sindh, hold a valid driving license, and be either enrolled in an educational institution or employed. Beneficiaries are bound not to sell or sublet the scooters for at least seven years.

The program builds on the Sindh government’s earlier initiatives, including the Pink Bus service launched in 2023, aimed at providing women with safe and accessible transport.
