Several areas of Karachi will experience a severe water shortage for up to four days starting Monday due to repair work on a major water supply line, the Karachi Water and Sanitation Corporation (KWSC) said.
KWSC stated that repair work will be carried out on an 84-inch diameter main water line located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Block 19 after leakage was identified. The corporation said the maintenance is necessary to stabilise the city’s water supply system ahead of Ramazan.
According to the water utility, repair work will begin at noon on Monday and continue for approximately 96 hours. During this period, water supply from the Dhabeji pumping station will remain reduced, causing a shortfall of nearly 200 million gallons per day.
Karachi normally receives around 650 million gallons of water daily. During the repair period, supply is expected to drop to about 450 million gallons per day. However, water supply from Hub, Gharo and other pumping stations will continue without interruption.
KWSC said areas likely to face reduced or suspended supply include Clifton, DHA, Korangi, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jinnah Town, Chanesar, Saddar and Lyari. The Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain closed during the maintenance work.
The utility urged residents to conserve water during the repair period and said supply conditions are expected to improve once the work is completed.
