India is Getting Israel’s LORA Missile

India has decided to acquire and locally produce Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) Long Range Artillery (LORA) ballistic missiles and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems’ Ice Breaker cruise missiles. The deal follows the signing of a defense memorandum of understanding between India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Israeli Defense Director General Amir Baram.

Israeli media, citing the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), reported that India purchased roughly 34 percent of Israel’s defense exports between 2020 and 2024, making New Delhi the country’s largest buyer of Israeli military equipment during that period.

India’s interest in Air LORA grew after evaluating the Rampage missile’s performance in recent encounters with Pakistan. Rampage, with a 250-kilometre range, offers high precision when launched from aircraft such as the Sukhoi-30 and MiG-29, but its shorter range exposes aircraft to advanced enemy air defenses.

Air LORA, developed by IAI’s MLM division, extends operational range to 400 kilometres. It allows aircraft to strike enemy targets from a safer distance. The missile weighs 1,600 kilograms, flies at supersonic speeds, uses satellite-based navigation hardened against jamming, and carries multiple warhead types with ten-metre accuracy.

India has also shown strong interest in Rafael’s Ice Breaker cruise missile. It can engage land and maritime targets up to 300 kilometres, operate in all weather conditions, and navigate contested electronic environments using infrared guidance and artificial intelligence for precise target identification.
