Completion Date Announced for Karachi’s Green Line Project

The federal government has announced that construction work on Karachi’s long-delayed Green Line project will resume soon, signaling progress toward improving the city’s public transport system.

Federal Government Spokesperson for Sindh Raja Khaleeq Ansari confirmed that a comprehensive meeting was recently held at the Prime Minister’s House, where all matters related to the Green Line project were reviewed. He assured that the unfinished work identified by the local government will be completed without further delay.

Calling it “good news for citizens,” Ansari said the project, which had been delayed by about a month, is now expected to be completed by September 2026. He shared that a new station will be built near Capri Cinema, Plaza, and Jama Cloth, while the Green Line corridor will terminate near Jama Cloth.

Addressing concerns raised by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Ansari clarified that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project was issued in 2017 and carries no expiration date, making it still valid.

He also announced that a state-of-the-art station at Karachi Cantt will be inaugurated on October 31, describing it as a modern facility offering an airport-like experience for commuters.

Ansari emphasized that the federal government is committed to supporting Karachi’s infrastructure projects. He added that only maintenance work is currently underway on the Lyari Expressway, which will continue operating normally.
