Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in fares for the railcars operating between Lahore and Rawalpindi, effective immediately.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the fare hike applies to the Subak Kharam and Subak Raftar railcars. The increase ranges between Rs. 150 and Rs. 250, depending on the class of travel. The official added that passengers will now be provided refreshments in exchange for the revised fares.

Under the new rates, the fare for the AC Parlor class has been raised to Rs. 2,500, AC Business to Rs. 2,250, AC Standard to Rs. 2,100, and Economy Class to Rs. 1,300. The adjustment is aimed at covering rising operational costs while maintaining service quality for passengers.
This is not the first fare adjustment in recent months. Two months earlier, Pakistan Railways had increased fares for passenger and freight trains by 2 percent following a surge in petroleum prices.
On October 1, the federal government announced another increase in fuel prices, raising petrol by Rs. 4.07 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs. 4.04 per liter. Following the revision, petrol now costs Rs. 268.68 per liter, while diesel stands at Rs. 276.81.
Officials say the fare revision was necessary to manage the growing expenses linked to fuel and maintenance while continuing efficient train operations.
