Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced the launch of a new passenger train service between Karachi and Sukkur, with an investment of Rs. 6 billion. The service will feature air-conditioned coaches and upgraded tracks, aimed at providing modern travel facilities for passengers.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday. The two leaders also discussed the revival of the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), with Shah stressing that the project has already faced years of delays and now requires urgent action.

The chief minister proposed outsourcing certain railway operations to enhance service delivery and efficiency. He also emphasized the need to prioritize upgrades on the Karachi-to-Rohri rail line, noting that improvements there would ease travel for thousands of commuters by increasing both speed and capacity.
Both the federal and provincial governments agreed to launch joint efforts to remove encroachments along railway lines, a step they said is critical for the smooth implementation of new projects. Abbasi assured the Sindh government of full cooperation from Pakistan Railways to improve urban transport and expand connectivity across the province.
The new Karachi-Sukkur service, coupled with progress on the KCR project, is expected to significantly boost passenger convenience and help meet the growing demand for affordable rail travel.
