Punjab Announces More Free Laptops for Students

The Punjab government is preparing to launch the second phase of its free laptop distribution scheme, an initiative aimed at promoting digital learning for students across the province.

According to the Higher Education Department, the distribution will begin next month on a merit basis, with the schedule already finalized. The Punjab Chief Minister is expected to inaugurate the scheme during a ceremony in the first or second week of September.

In the first phase, around 14,000 laptops were distributed to students in Lahore. The upcoming phase will extend the program to other districts of Punjab, enabling a larger number of deserving students to benefit.

Officials stated that the scheme is designed to foster digital literacy and support e-learning by giving students access to modern educational tools. The laptops are expected to help with research, online study resources, and academic assignments.

The program also seeks to address the digital divide by making technology more accessible for students from underprivileged backgrounds, while at the same time recognizing academic excellence through merit-based selection.
