The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy rainfall in Karachi and Hyderabad from August 24 to 28. The warning raises concerns over possible urban flooding, power outages, and disruptions to essential services.
According to the NDMA, Hyderabad is likely to face heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning, heightening the risk of flooding in low-lying neighborhoods. Karachi is also expected to receive significant rainfall starting Thursday night, which could impact traffic flow and civic infrastructure.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious during the upcoming spell. Citizens have been advised to avoid traveling on waterlogged roads, keep away from electric poles, and handle electrical appliances carefully.
The NDMA also stressed the importance of ensuring that household drainage systems remain clear to prevent water accumulation. Families living in vulnerable areas have been asked to prepare emergency kits with essentials such as drinking water, dry food, flashlights, and first aid supplies.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Friday that the weather system which soaked Karachi over the past three days is expected to weaken, with only light morning showers possible today.
However, the Met Office confirmed that another monsoon system is likely to enter Sindh on August 27, bringing fresh rainfall to Karachi and other parts of the province through August 30.
