Pakistan Idol Returns After 11 Years with Shafaat Ali as Host and Star-Studded Judges Panel

The buzz is back, and it’s louder than ever—Pakistan Idol, the country’s biggest music competition, is making a triumphant return after 11 years, igniting excitement across the nation. With fans eagerly speculating for months about who would host this electrifying season, the suspense has finally ended.

Syed Shafaat Ali will take center stage as the official host of Pakistan Idol 2025, Geo TV and the show’s official network confirmed via its website.

“Known for lighting up every stage, adding colour to every gathering and making every show memorable, Ali is now ready to bring his charm and boundless energy to Pakistan Idol 2025,”
the network announced.

Produced by MHL and airing on Geo TV, Pakistan Idol’s much-anticipated comeback has sparked a wave of excitement. The revival has already prompted thousands of young, aspiring singers to submit their online auditions, eager to compete on a platform that has historically launched several successful music careers.

Adding to the excitement is the announcement of a fresh, star-studded panel of judges: legendary vocalist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Bilal Maqsood (formerly of the band Strings), celebrated singer Zeb Bangash, and popular actor-musician Fawad Khan. Their diverse backgrounds promise a dynamic judging panel that blends classical, contemporary, and mainstream sensibilities.

An adaptation of the British music reality series Pop Idol, the Pakistani version first aired in 2014 on Geo TV. The original season featured Ali Azmat, Bushra Ansari, and Hadiqa Kiani as judges. Zamad Baig, a singer from Lahore, took home the title in the debut season, capturing the nation’s attention and hearts.

Zoya Merchant, director at MHL Global—which is responsible for streaming the show across five TV networks—spoke with Variety, saying:

“Pakistan has incredible musical talent, and this platform will not only spotlight it nationwide but elevate it to the global stage.”

Pakistan Idol’s impact on aspiring artists has been widely recognized. Contestants from Season One have praised the platform for its role in grooming, exposure, and career-building.

“It advertises you,”
said Waqas Ali Vicky, a former contestant, in an interview.
“You are musically groomed when you go to this show.”

Rose Marie, one of the finalists from Season One, echoed similar sentiments.

“Every artist wants a boost in their career and Pakistan Idol is a stage where all of the country can watch them and appreciate them. Something at such a big scale in Pakistan was amazing and the management was great too.”

The show not only teaches musical skills, but also helps young performers grow holistically.

“All of us boys who went into Pakistan Idol were raw talent,”
said Vicky.
“We learned how to dress ourselves. There are people to teach you and there is an environment where everyone is focused upon their music only… You observe and learn to experiment from each other.”

Importantly, Pakistan Idol has also helped emerging artists make valuable industry connections.

“I got to know a lot of people from the set, and later continued to stay in touch with them,”
Marie shared.
“These people gave me a lot of work. I did original soundtracks for dramas, film songs, and advertisements.”

For many contestants, the show became a life-changing experience—both professionally and personally.

“Your name gets attached to this platform and people start getting to know you,”
said Vicky.
“They start to follow you from around the world and you stay engaged with your fans this way. In Pakistan, an opportunity like this becomes a great chance for gully boys who want to do music at an international level.”

With online auditions and casting calls already underway, the anticipation is building. A premiere date will be announced soon, and fans are eagerly waiting to see who will rise to become Pakistan’s next musical sensation.
