Residents in several major cities of Pakistan will observe multiple public holidays this week following announcements by local administrations.
In Lahore, the district administration has declared Friday, August 15, a public holiday to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), one of the region’s most revered saints.

A notification confirmed that all government offices, educational institutions, and public departments in the city will remain closed. With the nationwide Independence Day holiday on August 14, Lahore residents will have two consecutive days off.

In Sindh, all public and private educational institutions will remain closed on August 15 in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a day of mourning commemorated by millions worldwide. Combined with the August 14 Independence Day holiday, this gives students and staff in the province a two-day break.
In Islamabad, the district administration has declared Wednesday, August 13, a local holiday within the capital’s revenue limits. This will be followed by the nationwide August 14 holiday, giving residents two consecutive days off as well.
