Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved an extension in the deadline for free vehicle emissions testing, allowing citizens to continue availing the service until August 31, 2025.
Previously, the free Emission Testing System (ETS) was scheduled to end on June 30. The provincial government had planned to transfer emissions testing responsibilities to private vehicle dealerships across Lahore following the deadline.

Earlier statements by Raja Jahangir Anwar, Secretary of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, indicated that ETS operations would be handed over to dealerships of all vehicle manufacturers operating in the city. These authorized centers would be equipped with testing machines and trained staff, with citizens expected to pay Rs. 400 per test.
According to the department, the move aimed to increase the number of tested vehicles and improve air quality in Lahore. Raja Jahangir Anwar had highlighted that outsourcing to private dealerships would enhance both efficiency and accessibility for vehicle owners.
However, with the newly approved extension, free emissions testing will remain available for another two months. The decision offers more time for the public to test their vehicles at no cost and supports ongoing efforts to combat environmental pollution in the provincial capital.
