Pakistan’s Largest Cattle Inaugrated in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the country’s largest model cattle market at Shahpur Kanjran in Lahore, marking a major development in the modernization of the livestock sector.

Spanning 74 acres, the model market is equipped with advanced facilities, including shaded enclosures, veterinary services, and modern infrastructure. It can house up to 25,000 large animals and 150,000 small animals.

In a first for Pakistan, fans have been installed inside animal sheds to offer relief from the heat. A quarantine centre has also been established to protect animals from contagious diseases.

To accommodate livestock traders, 20 spacious residential rooms have been built, alongside essential facilities like a mosque, restrooms, a veterinary clinic, tuck shop, bank, and ATM. The site also includes a loading/unloading bay, auction bay, modern slaughterhouse, and a truck centre. Ample parking and a police post have been provided for added convenience.

CM Maryam Nawaz inspected the market and received a detailed briefing on the project. She also awarded shields to officials and contributors for their efforts in completing this milestone initiative.

A second model cattle market of this scale is planned for Jhang, further expanding the vision for a modern livestock trade network in Punjab.
