Pakistan Responded to Indian Aggression with Restraint and Precision, Says DG ISPR

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stating that the country is not inclined toward violence and responded to Indian military actions with responsibility and restraint. The recent escalation began after India conducted airstrikes on May 6–7 in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), which killed over 30 civilians. In response, Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets and intercepted multiple drones. Subsequent Indian strikes on May 9 targeted Pakistani military installations, prompting Islamabad to launch “Operation Bunyan Marsoos,” which focused exclusively on Indian military sites while deliberately avoiding civilian infrastructure.

In an interview with RT Arabic, Lt Gen Chaudhry said that “Pakistan is not a violent nation,” and emphasized that the country’s top priority remains peace. He explained that understanding the Pakistan-India tensions requires examining their historical context. He also accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, particularly through militant groups operating in Balochistan, and attempting to destabilize the region through covert activities.

The DG ISPR revealed that the ceasefire was requested by an Indian defence official and was facilitated through American mediation. He praised Pakistan’s diplomatic handling of the crisis, describing it as mature and effective. He criticised India for rejecting Pakistan’s call for a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), an incident for which New Delhi blamed Islamabad without offering any concrete evidence. “India refused a logical, impartial probe and instead resorted to missile attacks on civilian targets,” he said.

Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully committed to defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stated that any act of aggression would be met with a firm, measured response, strictly within the bounds of international norms.
