Govt Announces 40,000 E-Bikes at Discounted Prices

The federal government has announced a plan to provide 40,000 electric motorcycles to the public at subsidized rates, aiming to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain made the announcement on Wednesday during a press conference in Islamabad.

A subsidy of Rs. 4 billion has been allocated to encourage the use of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. In addition, 3,000 charging stations will be established nationwide to support the electric vehicle (EV) network.

Minister Hussain emphasized that the initiative will help lower pollution levels and reduce the country’s oil import costs. Banks will also offer low-interest loans to make the transition to EVs more accessible to the public.

As part of the program, 120 electric motorcycles will be given free of charge to top-performing students in recognition of their academic achievements.

The initiative also ensures inclusivity, with all female applicants guaranteed their e-bikes. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has expanded its e-bike allocation under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, increasing the total from 20,000 to 27,200.

Orphaned students are being prioritized, with many already receiving their bikes. The Bank of Punjab has approved loans for 20,000 students, and daily distributions of e-bikes are ongoing under this program.
