Government to Introduce Cambridge System in Islamabad Schools

The federal government will roll out the Cambridge Education System in four model schools and colleges in Islamabad from April 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, aims to provide high-quality education free of charge to enrolled students.

Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui described the move as a significant step toward raising education standards in Pakistan. Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani shared that training for teachers will begin within the next 10 days, ensuring a smooth implementation of the program.

The initiative will initially be available to Grade 6 students, with plans to expand it to more colleges by the 2026-27 academic year.

Students enrolled in the Cambridge program will not pay fees until O-level exams and will also receive free textbooks. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with Cambridge University Press and Assessment to bring this program to life.

Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of Cambridge International Education, emphasized the organization’s dedication to delivering world-class education in Pakistan during the MoU signing ceremony.

The selected institutions include Islamabad Model Colleges for Boys and Girls in sectors F-6/2, G-6/3, F-8/1, and F-8/3. Both local and Cambridge systems will operate simultaneously. Officials predict that the initiative may attract students from private schools, offering globally recognized qualifications at no cost.
