Peshawar BRT increases fares for express routes

Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has announced a fare increase for its express routes, which has taken effect immediately.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority issued a notification confirming the new flat fare of Rs 55 for express services operating on mixed traffic roads.

According to a spokesperson from TransPeshawar, this fare adjustment aims to enhance the travel experience for long-distance commuters. The express service was initially designed to offer comfortable and convenient travel for passengers covering extended distances.

However, recently, an increasing number of passengers using the express service for short trips—covering only 2-3 stops—has resulted in a lack of available seating for those traveling longer distances.

To address this issue, the fare hike is intended to discourage short-distance commuters from using the express routes, ensuring that seats are reserved for those on longer journeys. The spokesperson added that the change would have little effect on long-distance travelers, who will continue to enjoy the benefits of a comfortable and efficient service.

The official encouraged short-distance passengers to switch to other available routes better suited to their travel needs.

The routes affected by the fare increase include ER-09, ER-10, ER-12, and ER-16. These changes are expected to improve the overall travel experience for BRT express route passengers.
