Will petrol price decrease in Pakistan on October 1?

The government is expected to keep petrol price largely unchanged starting October 1, 2024, with only a slight increase of Rs0.11 per litre, according to a report by The News on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) is projected to decrease by Rs2.11 per litre in the same period. These prices are anticipated to remain in place for the next two weeks, but slight adjustments may be made starting October 16, 2024.

In the previous fortnight, the government had reduced petrol price by Rs10 per litre due to a decline in international fuel prices. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has determined the current prices based on global market trends.

The Finance Division also confirmed that the price of HSD had been reduced from Rs262.75 to Rs249.69 per litre after a Rs13.06 decrease.

Petrol is commonly used in private vehicles, motorbikes, and rickshaws, impacting the budgets of middle- and lower-income groups. High-speed diesel, on the other hand, is vital for heavy transportation, trucks, buses, and agricultural machinery.

A decrease in HSD prices could help control inflation, as it plays a crucial role in the transport of goods, especially food items like vegetables.
