WhatsApp Users Experience Issues with Voice Notes and Photos

Internet users across Pakistan are currently facing significant disruptions with WhatsApp, encountering difficulties in sending and receiving voice notes, photos, and documents.

This issue is notably impacting users on 4G networks, affecting millions of individuals. The problems have been ongoing since yesterday, causing widespread frustration among users.

Despite the scale of the issue, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated that it has not yet received any formal complaints from customers regarding these disruptions.

However, the authority has initiated an investigation into the WhatsApp disruptions following media coverage of the issue. Downdetector and other internet monitoring services have also recorded numerous complaints regarding the outage, highlighting the widespread nature of the problem.

Previously, Facebook (Meta) faced restrictions in Pakistan, leading to widespread access issues for users across different internet service providers (ISPs).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior recently justified the extended ban on the social media platform X, citing concerns over its role in spreading misinformation and inciting violence, which it views as a threat to peace and national security.

In a statement before the Sindh High Court, the Interior Ministry defended the ban on the social media platform X, asserting that ‘hostile elements’ are using the platform to incite violence and create chaos.
