Govt Imposes Fixed Charges on Domestic Electricity Bills

The government has decided to implement fixed charges on electricity bills for residential users. In a notification issued on Sunday,  households will now face monthly charges from Rs200 to Rs1,000 based on their electricity usage and load capacity.

If a household has an approved load over 5 kW, they will need to pay Rs1,000 each month. For those with less than 5 kW, the fixed charges will be set in different levels.

A fixed charge of Rs200 will be applied for those consuming between 301 and 400 units. Households using between 401 and 500 units will be charged Rs400, while those using between 501 and 600 units will face a charge of Rs600.

For consumption between 601 and 700 units, a fixed charge of Rs800 will be imposed, and for those exceeding 700 units, the charge will be Rs1,000. These new charges will be included in the electricity bills from July onwards.

Earlier, NEPRA suggested these fixed charges to the government, proposing that domestic consumers pay monthly fees ranging from Rs200 to Rs1,000. If the government does not approve the summary within a month, NEPRA will automatically enforce the charges.

According to the summary, from July onwards, domestic consumers will be required to pay these fixed charges every month.
