Days after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified 34 PTI MNAs after their resignations were accepted by Ashraf, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations of 35 additional Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Members of Provincial Assembly (MNAs) on Friday.
Following Imran Khan’s removal from the PTI leadership in April of last year via a Vote of No Confidence, PTI legislators resigned in large numbers from the lower chamber of parliament.
After the PTI indicated that it would return to the legislature and vowed to introduce a no-trust resolution against the current Prime Minister (PM), Shehbaz Sharif, a total of 69 resignations were accepted this week.
Reports state that President Arif Alvi was prepared to request that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accept a vote of confidence from the lower chamber of parliament.
Only 11 MNAs had previously accepted resignations from Raja Pervez Ashraf in July of last year.
