Arshad was travelling with a man who authorities in Kenya said was his cousin brother Khurram Ahmed, according to a police report. A stolen car was spotted outside an electrical store, and the police received a tip. The car’s owner had left his son inside. When he returned, he discovered that his son had been kidnapped and that the automobile was vanished. Arshad and Khurram Ahmed are accused of not stopping the car by the police when they tracked the vehicle. When the car came to a stop after being fired upon, Sharif had already passed away from a head wound caused by a gunshot. Nine shots were fired at the car, according to the police report.
Arshad Sharif and his driver allegedly violated a roadblock that had been put in place to check on motor vehicles using the route, according to The Star, a reliable news source and one of the biggest in Kenya. As a result, Arshad Sharif was shot in the head and murdered by police.
“They were flagged down at a roadblock being manned by a group of police officials while they were travelling from Magadi town to Nairobi,” the police reported.
“According to police, there was a demand for police to catch a car identical to the one they were driving following a carjacking incident in the Pangani region of Nairobi where a child was taken hostage,” the police statement read.
Imran Khan, the former prime minister (PM) and the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has also conveyed his sorrow over Arshad Sharif’s passing.
Shocked at the brutal murder of Arshad Sharif who paid the ultimate price for speaking the truth – his life. He had to leave the country & be in hiding abroad but he continued to speak the truth on social media, exposing the powerful. Today the entire nation mourns his death,” he wrote in a tweet.
