Authorities have sealed two hotels in the Rondu area for polluting the Istak Nallah stream with untreated wastewater, as part of an environmental crackdown.
The action was taken during a joint operation by the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA) and the district administration under the Environmental Protection Act 2014. The campaign aims to ensure eco-friendly tourism and curb violations damaging the region’s natural beauty.

Inspections in Ghamba and Rondu sub-divisions revealed that several hotels were operating without Environmental NOCs and were involved in unauthorized construction. On-the-spot notices were issued to the violators.
The two hotels sealed in Istak Nallah were found discharging sewage directly into the water body, endangering public health and spoiling the scenic environment that draws tourists to the region.
Officials have directed all hotel owners to comply with environmental standards, secure necessary approvals, and implement proper waste management systems. Strict action has been warned against further violations.
The GB-EPA reiterated its resolve to protect Gilgit-Baltistan’s environment and promote responsible tourism through strict enforcement of environmental laws.
