Imran Khan kept in dark cell, no calls allowed to sons: Jemima

Jemima Goldsmith has expressed deep concern over the treatment of her ex-husband, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail.

In a lengthy post on X, she revealed that Pakistani authorities have stopped all visits to Imran by his family and lawyers. According to Jemima, Imran is now also denied the opportunity to make his weekly calls to their sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, who are based in London.

She further claimed that Imran is being held in total isolation, with no contact with the outside world.

“We have received reports that the authorities have turned off the lights and electricity in his cell. The jail cook has been sent on leave, leaving him in solitary confinement,” she wrote, emphasizing the concerns raised by his lawyers over his safety and well-being.

Jemima also highlighted the broader context of targeting Imran’s family and members of his party, PTI. She mentioned the arrest of Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, who has been in military custody since August 2023, and the recent detainment of his sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, as they participated in peaceful demonstrations.

Imran Khan, 72, has been in jail since August 2023, facing multiple legal cases since his removal from office in April 2022. His personal physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, was also denied access to examine him at Adiala Jail earlier this week.
