Vice President of Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla, has hinted at the possibility of Indian cricket team visiting Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Speaking to attendees at the Uttar Pradesh Premier League, Shukla stated that the tour could happen if the government permits it. He added that Pakistan has the option to decide its participation in the 2026 ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Shukla recognized that Pakistan might respond if India chooses not to visit. He pointed out that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) could retaliate if India misses the tournament.
Although there are concerns about Pakistan potentially boycotting the Asia Cup in India, Shukla stressed that the ultimate decision rests with the Indian government, not the BCCI.

The Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan from February to March 2025. However, discussions are still underway regarding the venue and the participating teams. The BCCI is advocating for a hybrid or neutral venue model.
On the other hand, the PCB insists on hosting the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan and expects the ICC to handle the task of bringing the Indian team. According to Indian media, BCCI is currently in discussion with their government.
If the Indian government refuses permission, ICC could be forced to shift India’s game out of Pakistan. The BCCI official added that permission from the government is necessary for Indian cricket team’s participation in the mega event.
However, they haven’t received any positive response from the government yet. It would be massive blow to Pakistan if India decides against participating in the Champions Trophy next year.
At the same time, BCCI is well aware of the fact that PCB could respond by not sending its team to India for the upcoming tournaments, including Asia Cup and the World Cup.
