Despite the prime minister’s rescue package, the government-run Utility Store Corporation (USC) has raised the cost of sugar, flour, ghee, and other food goods.
The cost of sugar climbed by Rs19 per kg, that of ghee by Rs75 per kg, and that of a 20 kg bag of flour by Rs496 in utility stores.
The letter states that on January 1, 2023, the new prices would take effect at energy retailers all across the country.
Beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) who deserve it would not be charged the new rates.
Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister, had declared that Food Stores Corporation would offer targeted subsidies on staple food goods. These items included wheat, ghee, sugar, rice, lentils, and lentils. Customers who have registered for the Benazir Income Support Program are entitled to special discounts on food at the Food Stores outlets.
