A proposed increase in the Climate Support Levy under Budget 2026 could push up the prices of entry-level petrol vehicles, including the Suzuki Alto, one of Pakistan’s most popular hatchbacks.
According to market discussions ahead of the budget announcement, the government is considering raising the levy on petrol-powered vehicles up to 1300cc from the current 1 percent to 3 percent. If approved and implemented, the move would increase the ex-factory prices of several models in the segment.

Industry estimates suggest the Suzuki Alto could become Rs. 59,000 to Rs. 66,000 more expensive, depending on the variant. The Alto VXR Upgraded is projected to rise from Rs. 2,994,861 to around Rs. 3,054,000, while the Alto VXR AGS Upgraded could increase to approximately Rs. 3,229,000 from Rs. 3,166,480. The Alto VXL AGS Upgraded may see its price climb from Rs. 3,326,446 to nearly Rs. 3,392,000.
The potential increase is likely to affect budget-conscious buyers, as the Alto remains a popular choice among first-time car owners, motorcycle users upgrading to four-wheel transport and families seeking an affordable vehicle.
The impact on buyers may extend beyond ex-factory prices. Estimated on-road costs could reach around Rs. 3,130,572 for the Alto VXR Upgraded, Rs. 3,308,155 for the VXR AGS Upgraded and Rs. 3,473,562 for the VXL AGS Upgraded after registration, taxes, insurance and other charges are added.
However, the proposed levy increase has not yet been approved. Final vehicle prices will depend on the Finance Bill, official government notifications and any revised price lists issued by automakers after the budget announcement.
