Govt Announces Major Relief for Gas Consumers

The federal government has announced that it will not increase gas prices for the next six months.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik made the announcement while chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.

He said the government is providing relief to consumers on the special instructions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The minister stated that gas prices will remain unchanged for all consumer categories as a result of ongoing reforms in the gas sector.

He said the increase in circular debt has stopped, no new debt is being generated, and the government has finalized an agreement to divert surplus LNG cargo from Qatar to the international market.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said gas supply to domestic consumers continues across the country and that no local gas field has been shut down.

The meeting was informed that gas supply hours have been extended from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Officials also briefed the meeting that unaccounted-for gas (UFG) losses in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited have reduced from 9 percent to 5 percent, while losses in Sui Southern Gas Company have dropped from 17 percent to 10 percent.
