Sindh Announces New Marking System for Board Exams

The Sindh Department of Universities and Boards has approved a new marking system for students of classes 9 to 12, set to take effect from the next academic session.

Under the revised policy, the minimum passing percentage has been increased from 33% to 40%. The department stated that this change aims to enhance academic standards and better reflect student performance.

Another key feature of the reform is that results will now be announced in grades instead of raw marks or percentages. According to the new scale, students scoring between 50% and 59% will receive a grade D, while 60% to 69% will correspond to grade C. Those achieving 70% to 74% will earn a grade B, 75% to 79% a B+, and 80% to 84% a B++.

Higher achievers will be awarded top grades, with 85% to 89% earning an A, and 90% to 94% an A+. Scores between 95% and 100% will also fall under the A+ category, with the system allowing for dual classification in the top bracket.

Officials said the new grading framework aims to reduce exam-related stress and align Sindh’s education system with international standards, making it easier for students to apply to foreign universities. Awareness campaigns will be launched before implementation next year.
