The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday referred a revised project for the Karachi–Lahore Motorway (KLM) to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
The project, worth Rs68.7 billion, relates to land acquisition, compensation for affected properties, and relocation of utilities along the 959-kilometer stretch of the motorway. It excludes sections of the M-9 and M-4 that are already completed.

Officials described the scheme as a critical step toward ensuring uninterrupted connectivity along one of the country’s most important transport corridors.
The CDWP meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, also discussed several other major initiatives. A proposed Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore, with a cost of Rs74.9 billion, was referred to ECNEC.
The Harpo Hydropower Project in Gilgit-Baltistan, revised at Rs34.3 billion, was also sent forward for consideration.
Among the approved projects was the construction of an eight-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railway Crossing in Shahdara, estimated at Rs4.67 billion. In the education sector, a revised program aimed at strengthening inclusive and responsive education was cleared at a cost of Rs1.38 billion.
Additionally, a revised water resources development project for Zhob and Mula river basins in Balochistan was forwarded to ECNEC, while concept clearance was granted for five proposals seeking international financing.
