Weather Department Predicts More Monsoon Rain Across Sindh

Following Sunday’s heavy rainfall that raised fears of urban flooding, light showers returned to Karachi on Monday as dark clouds hovered over the city, according to weather officials.

Drizzle was reported in several areas including Defence, Korangi Road, Sharea Faisal, Burns Road, MA Jinnah Road, Qayyumabad, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, and Baloch Colony. University Road, Jamshed Road, Jehangir Road, Yaseenabad, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal also witnessed light rain.

Weather experts said the drizzle could last between 30 and 60 minutes, adding that heavier showers may hit later in the day if the system shifts westward.

Elsewhere in Sindh, heavy rain lashed Larkana, Khairpur, Kot Diji, and the Aror hills, flooding local storm drains and nullahs. Tharparkar continued to receive intermittent showers, while Kashmore reported light rain.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said rain-bearing clouds are currently present over the eastern parts of Karachi, which could spread further across the city. Light to heavy rain has already been reported in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Malir Halt, Rafa-e-Aam, Bahria Town, and areas near the M9 Motorway.

The Met Office warned of “unusual downpours” across Sindh in the next 48 hours, with a “deep depression” over India’s Rajasthan and Gujarat expected to enter southeastern Sindh within 24 hours. Intermittent heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is forecast for Karachi, Tharparkar, Umarkot, and other cities until September 10.
