The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi next week as a fresh monsoon system moves into Sindh from India’s Gujarat on the night of August 17.
According to the Met Office, rainfall is expected across various districts of Sindh between August 18 and August 23, with one or two spells likely to hit Karachi during this period.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab has issued a weather alert ahead of Independence Day celebrations, warning of heavy downpours across major cities including Lahore.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said the seventh spell of monsoon rains has already begun and will continue until August 21. He noted that this round of showers is stronger than earlier ones and could trigger heavy rainfall in both the upper catchment areas of rivers and the plains of Punjab.
Authorities cautioned that the rains may also coincide with important religious events, including the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), potentially disrupting gatherings and affecting several districts.
The PDMA has advised citizens to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official updates during the ongoing monsoon spell.
