The federal government has announced a major initiative to offer more than 100,000 electric bikes to citizens on easy loans and low-interest terms. The scheme aims to make e-bikes more accessible, reduce fuel imports, and support the local industry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting where it was revealed that over 300,000 electric rickshaws and loaders will also be distributed under similar loan facilities.

The initiative will include a 25% quota for women, and provinces will receive allocations based on population — with Balochistan’s share increased to 10% on the PM’s orders.
Additionally, students with top performance in intermediate exams across all educational boards, including the federal board, will be given free electric bikes. Unemployed individuals will be prioritised for e-rickshaws and loaders to generate jobs.
The prime minister also called for third-party validation of the entire distribution process to ensure transparency. He emphasised the need to build a full ecosystem for electric vehicle production and maintenance in Pakistan.
Officials briefed the PM that four new battery manufacturing firms are launching in the country as a result of the EV scheme.
The government will also launch a public awareness campaign to educate people about the benefits and procedures of applying for the program.
