UK Launches E-Visas for Pakistani Students and Workers

The United Kingdom has introduced e-visas for Pakistani students and workers, replacing physical immigration documents for most long-term visa holders as part of a shift to a fully digital immigration system.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the British High Commission in Islamabad confirmed that the e-visa system will apply to most students and workers staying in the UK for over six months. These digital visas will offer easier, faster, and more secure processing.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the change will save applicants time and allow them to retain their passports during the visa process.

The new e-visa system follows the signing of the UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement and the announcement of a UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to the BHC, eligible categories include:

  • Students (including 11-month study visas)
  • Skilled workers, health and care staff
  • Global Talent and Global Business Mobility routes
  • International Sportspersons
  • Youth Mobility Scheme
  • Temporary workers under approved programmes

Those applying for visitor visas or as dependents will still receive physical documents. Existing physical visa holders need not take any action.

Holders will link their passport to a UKVI digital account, which will serve as proof of immigration status and enable smooth international travel.
