Qatari Princess Named Pakistan’s Tourism Ambassador

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Qatari royal Sheikha Asma Al Thani as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism following her successful ascent of Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest peak in the world.

Sheikha Asma recently scaled the 8,126-meter mountain in Gilgit-Baltistan, a peak famously known as the “Killer Mountain” due to its extreme terrain and deadly history. Her accomplishment marks her ninth successful climb of a peak over 8,000 meters and is being celebrated as a major milestone in her mountaineering career.

The Prime Minister, in a social media post, praised her achievement as “inspiring” and a “testament to the courage and determination that strengthens the friendship between Pakistan and Qatar.” He noted that her climb sends a message of resilience and shared pride.

In her own reflection on the summit, Sheikha Asma described the expedition as one of her most challenging, facing black ice and frequent rockfalls. “This mountain tested me in ways I didn’t expect,” she wrote, adding that the experience offered both danger and personal growth.

As Pakistan continues to promote adventure tourism, Sheikha Asma’s role as ambassador is expected to boost global interest in the country’s vast and rugged mountain ranges.
