Maryam Nawaz Launches Free Higher Education Scheme for Workers’ Children in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a significant step toward expanding access to higher education by offering free admission to children of industrial and mine workers at seven campuses of COMSATS University. Under this initiative, the Punjab government will bear all educational expenses, ensuring that children from working-class families can pursue higher studies without financial barriers.

The initiative, launched through the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund, invites applications from registered workers for free education opportunities for their children. Notably, children of disabled and deceased workers will also benefit from this program, receiving full educational support at the university.

“The doors of higher educational institutions are being opened for the children of every worker in Punjab. No child in Punjab will be deprived of education now,” said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing her commitment to inclusive education.

Applications can be submitted at different campuses according to the following schedule: Islamabad campus by July 9, Lahore by July 17, Wah Cantt and Abbottabad by July 4, Vehari and Attock by July 11, and Sahiwal by August 15.

In her special message on Father’s Day, the chief minister reflected on the role of fathers in shaping their children’s lives. “A father, like an umbrella, keeps his children in shade by protecting them from the scorching sun,” she said. “A father is a person who teaches his children not only to live, but also to live with their heads held high.” She added, “I pay tribute to every father who loves his children and fulfills their rights.”

Continuing her message, she shared a heartfelt wish: “I pray that every son and daughter get a father who gives them the courage to dream and turn their dreams into reality.”

In a separate message on Global Wind Day, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz turned her focus to renewable energy, pointing out the province’s potential in wind power. “There are immense opportunities for energy generation from wind in the Thal area of Punjab,” she noted. She affirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable development, stating, “Punjab will explore possibilities for wind energy generation through public-private partnership.”
