Rumors are circulating on social media that the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on tossing money at weddings and that violators, including the groom, could be arrested. However, no such ban has been enforced.

A viral post on April 13 claimed in Urdu that “throwing currency notes at weddings has been banned in Punjab” and warned that anyone violating the ban would face arrest. The claim quickly spread across various platforms, sparking confusion and concern.

When asked, senior officials from the Punjab government dismissed the claim. A representative from the Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR) in Lahore confirmed that the Punjab Law Department had not issued any notification banning the act. Another official from the DGPR also verified that no such directive had been communicated to the media or any other department.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department further stated that after checking with the relevant internal security and judicial departments, as well as the police, there was no evidence of any such restriction or penalty being introduced.

Additionally, no related notification, directive, or law has been published on the official websites of the Punjab Assembly or the Punjab Law Department.

There is no official ban or arrest order regarding the tossing of money at wedding events in Punjab. The claim is false.
