The United States has officially ended the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program for Pakistan (Global UGRAD), closing a chapter that lasted 15 years and helped thousands of Pakistani students gain academic and cultural exposure in the U.S.
According to a statement issued by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), the U.S. Department of State has informed them that the Global UGRAD-Pakistan Program will no longer be offered.

The program, which began in 2009, enabled Pakistani undergraduates to study for one semester at U.S. universities. Over the years, it became one of the most sought-after academic exchange opportunities for students across Pakistan.
In a message shared by USEFP, the organisation acknowledged the disappointment many students may feel:
“We understand that this news may be disappointing, especially for those who applied this year and were looking forward to this opportunity.”
They also reflected on the program’s legacy, stating:
“The Global UGRAD Program has provided life-changing experiences to thousands of students, fostering academic growth, cultural exchange, and leadership development.”
While expressing pride in the program’s impact, USEFP also encouraged students to consider other available options:
“While this chapter is closing, we encourage you to explore other exchange and scholarship opportunities that may align with your aspirations.”
The Global UGRAD Program served as a bridge between the youth of both countries, promoting mutual understanding and collaboration. With its closure, many now look toward what future educational initiatives may follow.
