The Punjab government has initiated the recruitment of 4,000 personnel for the newly created Crime Control Department (CCD), aimed at tackling organised and serious crimes across the province.
The development was shared by Additional CCD Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha during a progress review meeting on Sunday, following the recent approval of the CCD Ordinance. The session focused on planning, staffing, logistics, and defining the department’s roles and responsibilities.
Mr. Chattha said the CCD is being established to specifically target hardened criminals, with a focus on major crimes such as drug trafficking, extortion, kidnappings for ransom, armed robberies, and operations in no-go areas.

Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar added that Regional and District Police Officers are fully backing the department’s launch by offering manpower, vehicles, and office space. He said the recruitment process is being carried out in phases, while procurement for equipment, furniture, and IT systems is also under way.
Locations for CCD police stations are currently being finalised. The new force will be equipped with advanced surveillance systems, a criminal database, modern tracking tools, and an upgraded IT infrastructure.
The CCD will also work to dismantle inter-district criminal gangs, curb vehicle theft, and take on the land mafia, while improving coordination among law enforcement agencies across Punjab.
