Imran Khan demands open court trial for Faiz Hameed

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has demanded an open court trial for former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed, arguing that the issue should not be considered an internal military matter.

Speaking informally with journalists, Khan stated that the army chief should ensure a transparent legal process for General (retd) Faiz Hameed. He also noted that his past association with Hameed is no longer pertinent now that Hameed is retired.

Imran Khan dismissed suggestions of ongoing influence from General Faiz Hameed, stating, “General Faiz became insignificant after retirement. How could he benefit me in any way?”

He called for an open trial if Hameed is implicated in the May 9 conspiracy, asserting that the issue is local rather than a national security matter.

Imran Khan warned that a military trial could harm Pakistan’s global reputation, insisting the issue should be addressed in a civilian court, as it involves a civilian leader rather than the army’s internal affairs.

Security sources have strongly reacted to Imran Khan’s call for an open trial of former intelligence chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, adding that such matters should be handled with discretion and are not suited for public scrutiny.

Security sources have challenged Imran Khan’s authority to dictate the nature of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed’s trial, questioning, “Who is the founding chairman to decide if Faiz Hameed’s trial should be open or not?”

They assured that should Imran Khan face a trial in connection with the case, it would be conducted transparently. “If the founding chairman is tried, it will be an open trial,” they stated.
