Govt Imposes New Garbage Tax on All Properties

The Punjab government has approved a new garbage tax that will be applied to residential and commercial properties throughout the province.

Following the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Finance and Development’s approval, a notification has been issued to enforce the new garbage tax. This tax applies to residential properties and businesses of all sizes, across both urban and rural areas of the province.

The new tax will also apply to residents of kachi abadis. In rural areas, individuals living in 5 marla houses will incur a monthly fee of Rs200, while those in homes between 10 marla and one kanal will be charged Rs400 per month.

In rural areas, small businesses and shops will face a monthly garbage tax of Rs300, medium-sized businesses will be charged Rs700 per month, and large establishments, such as factories, workshops, and petrol stations, will also pay Rs700 monthly.

In urban areas, the monthly garbage tax for residents of 5 marla houses will be Rs300, while those in 10 marla houses will be taxed Rs500. Houses ranging from 10 marla to one kanal will incur a Rs2,000 tax, and for larger houses, the monthly charge will be Rs5,000.

In urban settings, garbage tax for small commercial shops will be set at Rs500 per month, medium-sized businesses will be taxed Rs1,000 monthly, and larger establishments, including factories and workshops, will face a Rs3,000 monthly charge.
