In a disturbing development, acclaimed screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar was reportedly kidnapped, tortured, and robbed in Lahore earlier this week.
The incident, which has shocked the entertainment industry, is said to have taken place around midnight on Monday, July 15. Qamar addressed the media about the ordeal in a press conference held today.
The FIR filed at Sundar Police Station in Lahore reveals that Qamar received a call from an unknown number shortly before midnight. The caller, introducing herself as Amna Urooj, claimed to be a fan and expressed interest in working with him on a TV drama.
Khalilur Rehman Qamar agreed to meet Amna Urooj after she called him. Upon arriving at the location around 4:40 a.m., he was welcomed into her home. Shortly after, about seven armed men entered the room, conducted a body search, and stole Rs60,000, an iPhone 11, a Bank Al-Habib ATM card, and Qamar’s national identity card.

In his press conference, Khalilur Rehman Qamar explained that he agreed to meet Amna Urooj at 4:40 a.m. due to medical reasons, as his doctor advised him to avoid daytime activities for health reasons.
“I am sick and my doctor has strictly told me to not go out in the daytime for five years. Even if he hadn’t said that, we meet people at night and you don’t differentiate between men and women. When there’s no objection to me meeting men at night, then why should there be an objection to me agreeing to see this woman at the break of dawn? Because this happened at 4:40am, I had not agreed to go at night when I got the call. For the past 15 days, she was pestering me to see her.”
A reporter revealed that Amna Urooj told police she and Khalilur Rehman Qamar had been exchanging texts and photos for a week. However, Qamar strongly refuted this claim, asserting that Urooj’s interest was solely in joining his drama and that he no longer had records of any such messages.
