NADRA Launches Automated Birth and Death Registration System

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched an automated system to streamline the registration of births and deaths across Pakistan, marking a major milestone in digital governance and citizen facilitation.

Developed in collaboration with provincial governments, the initiative aims to make the process faster, more efficient, and transparent. According to NADRA, the system has been introduced under the directives of the Federal Minister for Interior and is part of the broader National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework approved by the Prime Minister earlier this year.

As part of a pilot phase, the new system has been installed in over 50 hospitals and health centers nationwide, including PIMS, CDA, and FG hospitals in Islamabad, Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, and several major healthcare facilities in Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The system connects hospitals directly to NADRA, enabling real-time reporting of births and deaths. Once an event is logged, parents or heirs receive an SMS or mobile app notification with instructions to complete the official registration at their local Union Council.

So far, NADRA has received more than 4,000 birth and 400 death notifications through the system. Officials say the initiative will soon expand nationwide, linking hospitals, NADRA, and Union Councils to create a fully integrated, technology-driven registration process.
