PTCL Announces Internet Slowdown on October 14

Internet users across Pakistan may face slower connectivity on October 14 as Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) begins maintenance work on one of the country’s main submarine cables, the company said in an advisory issued Monday.

According to PTCL, an international cable consortium will conduct repairs to fix a faulty repeater in the system. The maintenance activity is scheduled to begin around 11 a.m. (PST) and could continue for up to 18 hours.

“During this period, customers will experience internet service degradation. We regret the inconvenience,” the company stated.

PTCL added that while traffic will be rerouted through alternate cable systems to minimize disruption, users may still encounter brief slowdowns or latency issues until the maintenance is completed.

Pakistan’s internet infrastructure depends on several undersea cable networks operated by different international consortia. A fault or maintenance activity in one system can temporarily reduce the country’s overall bandwidth capacity, leading to slower browsing and streaming speeds.

The company assured users that its technical teams will closely monitor the situation and restore full service as soon as the repair work is completed. PTCL advised customers to plan accordingly for possible interruptions during the maintenance window.
